Lamine Yamal has become the youngest Barcelona player to score 50 official first-team goals, reaching the mark at 19 years and 49 days in a 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano. The age record belongs to Yamal, but the route was shorter for Lionel Messi, who required 37 fewer appearances to reach the same total.
Yamal’s curling left-footed finish was his first goal of the season and his 50th for the club. He added No. 51 in the 90th minute, guiding a low shot beyond Daniel Cárdenas after Karim Adeyemi’s pass. Raphinha scored twice as Barcelona recovered from Sergio Camello’s opener and maintained its perfect start.
Messi’s 50th came against Basel in the Champions League on October 22, 2008, four minutes into a 5-0 win. It was his 117th official Barcelona appearance. Yamal’s milestone arrived in his 154th, giving Messi the stronger scoring rate at roughly 0.43 goals per appearance compared with Yamal’s 0.32.
The time comparison runs the other way. Yamal reached 50 two years, 10 months and 23 days after his first Barcelona goal against Granada. Messi needed three years, five months and 21 days after opening his account against Albacete. Yamal was also more than two years younger when he reached the landmark.
The split fits the distinction examined after Yamal’s first 120 Barcelona games. Messi developed into the more prolific scorer, while Yamal entered senior football earlier and has carried a broader creative role. The Rayo win also reflected the distributed finishing behind Hansi Flick’s 300-goal Barcelona attack.

An updated all-competitions table places Yamal 60th among Barcelona’s official goalscorers. He is one goal behind Gary Lineker’s 52, two behind Gerard Piqué’s 53 and three behind Michael Laudrup’s 54. Historical counting conventions produce small differences between lists, but the immediate ladder is clear.
The current 50th-place total is 63 goals, leaving Yamal 12 short of a tie and 13 from moving beyond it. Fifth place is much farther away. Barcelona credits Josep Samitier with 184 official goals, behind Messi, César Rodríguez, Luis Suárez and László Kubala. On the club’s count, Yamal needs 133 more to draw level and 134 to reach 185. Some independent tables list Samitier at 187, so the cutoff varies by methodology.
A 30-goal club season every year would close the official gap in about four and a half seasons, creating a possible 2030-31 crossover. A pace of 24 per season points closer to 2031-32, while 18 per season moves the target toward 2033-34. His current contract runs through June 2031, which means only the 30-goal path would carry him beyond the club’s official Samitier total before the deal expires.
His career rate offers a more conservative guide. Fifty-one goals in 154 appearances is almost exactly one every three games. Sustained across 50 club appearances per season, that pace produces roughly 16 or 17 goals a year and places 185 around 2034-35. Form, injuries, role, minutes and whether he remains at Barcelona make each date a scenario rather than a forecast.
Yamal has already completed the part measured by age records. Reaching the top five will demand longevity. Messi’s 117-game route to 50 shows the scoring standard, while Samitier’s total shows how long Yamal must sustain his place in Barcelona’s attack. At 19, time is his greatest advantage.
