Wolves’ eight-year stay in the Premier League is over, but they are still nowhere near the top of the all-time relegation list in the Premier League era.
That record belongs to Norwich City.
Since the Premier League began in 1992, Norwich have been relegated six times: 1994/95, 2004/05, 2013/14, 2015/16, 2019/20 and 2021/22.
Behind them are West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City, both with five Premier League relegations.
Leicester’s place on that list is especially striking. This is the same club that produced one of the league’s greatest modern miracles by winning the title, yet they have also fallen through the trapdoor five times.
Then comes a group on four relegations: Burnley, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Sunderland and Watford.
Wolves now sit on three Premier League relegations: 2003/04, 2011/12 and 2025/26. Their latest drop ended an eight-season run in the top flight, another reminder of how quickly a club can slide from stability into survival mode.
Premier League relegation history is really a record of how hard it is to stay established. Promotion is one thing. Surviving the money gap, rebuilding the squad, and avoiding another fall is something else entirely.
Even Manchester City have been relegated from the Premier League twice, which says plenty about how much fortunes can change in English football.
Most Premier League relegations since 1992:
- Norwich City — 6
- West Bromwich Albion — 5
- Leicester City — 5
- Burnley — 4
- Middlesbrough — 4
- Sheffield United — 4
- Sunderland — 4
- Watford — 4
- Wolves — 3
For some clubs, the Premier League is not a permanent home. It is a cycle, reach it, lose it, and try to climb back again.
